A Life Changing Moment

2 Corinthians 5:17 … if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.

In the 1990 movie, “Mr. Destiny,” Jim Belushi played Larry Burrows, a teenager whose entire life was defined by one instant in time. With one swing of the bat during a baseball game in which he struck out in the bottom of the ninth with the bases loaded and his team down three points, his life changed and the course of his years was set! How would you like to know that your entire life depended on one thing, one test, one moment in time? Well, it does! When I saw that movie, I thought, wow, that’s a lot like the Christian life … where one brief moment determines the outcome of your entire life … for all eternity.

What is that moment? The instant you ask Jesus to be your Lord. According to the Bible, at that instant your old self passes away and a new YOU is born. This is where the often-mocked but very Biblical term born again has its origins, in a spiritual rebirth. When you accept Christ, one moment you are NOT saved and in the next instant you ARE saved … FOREVER! Romans 10:9 tells how “… if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” This speaks of an action on our part – confess and believe. Inaction is NOT an option. You see, no decision for Jesus is the same as a “NO” decision against Jesus! When your life is over and all the things of this world lie behind, the one thing that will determine the true success and outcome of your life is what you decided to do with Jesus.
