Tecomate Rut Report – Golden Triangle, South TX – 1/15/14
In South Texas last week I observed only limited rut activity. Small bucks were occasionally observed sparring. Only a few mature bucks were seen pursuing does during six full days hunting. I've heard reports all over the brush country from several quality deer range managers that during this season there has been a noticeable lack of intense rut action. In three hunting trips to the brush country and after hunting on five superb ranches I concur. Peak rut is behind us now, and for some reason, on a great portion of the Golden Triangle's superb range observed intense rut activity has been limited.
