Limitations Part 1: Adequate Nutrition
Here at Tecomate we have always stressed the importance in year round nutrition for your deer herd. The biology is simple, the more nutrition a buck gets, the chances are greater in that buck reaching his full genetic potential. I know in the South one of the limiting factors in deer that cause smaller bucks, compared to many other parts in the nation, is limited year round nutrition. There are some exceptions, but for the most part southern deer are neglected nutritionally.
Psalms 23:1-2a. The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures.
Every time I hear this verse I think of a “green field” or a “green food plot”. So I guess you could say that the shepherds knew all about good food plots before Tecomate did. It was vital to the survival of the sheep herd that very best “greens” where found for the sheep to feed on. If the sheep did not get the nutrition they needed then they would suffer physically. So it was the shepherd’s job to search the country side and find the best grazing grounds that he could get his herd to.
As for the Christian we need adequate “spiritual nutrition” to function properly in the world today. Christians today are not reaching their full potential in Christ because we are lacking spiritual nutrition. Our protein source comes from the powerful Word of God. The fact of the matter is our generation today is becoming more and more Biblical illiterate; and I am referring to church going folks. We are limited spiritually due to a lack of year round Biblical nutrition.
The difference between deer not getting enough nutrition and Christians not getting enough nutrition is in the supplier of the nutrition. As managers and hunters we have neglected our deer by not supplying them with the nutrition they need. However, The LORD, who is our Shepherd and our Supplier has already given us all the nutrition we will ever need by giving us His Word. Let’s face it; most of us have multiple Bibles lying around from room to room. All we have to do is read it on a daily, yearly, and life time basis. We struggle with so many things in our life today due to a lack of Biblical nutrition. We struggle with doubt and uncertainty because we don’t know His protein filled promises that the Bible serves up. We struggle with temptation and persuasion because we don’t know His substance filled statues that His Word offers. The LORD provides us with all we could ever need nutritionally through His Blessed Book.
Christians, live out your lives to your fullest potential by being faithful students of the Bible. Biblical nutrition will help you stand strong, cultivate comfort, and defeat the devil throughout your life all the while giving God the Glory.
God Bless and Happy Hunting.
