Lessons from a Mom and her Disobedient Young Part II
The Carelessness of Disobedience:
Luke 6:47-49
“I will show you what he is like who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice. He is like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built. But the one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete."
In this parable Jesus tells a story of two different people. Both of them heard what Jesus had to say, but only one obeyed. Jesus said that the obedient one was like a man that built his house on a good foundation. So when the storms came the house did not even shake and it stood firm on the rock. It is the same for those that listen and do what the Bible tells them. When the storms of life come to them by temptations and tough times they can stand firm and make it through. You could say these people are smart and careful.
However, Jesus said that the disobedient one was like a man that built his house on the sand, taking no concern in the foundation. So when the storms came the house was destroyed. It is the same for those that hear, but do things their own way disregarding God’s Word. And when the storms of life come they crack under the pressure, like the house in this parable. You could say these people are stupid and careless.
The little fawn in our story was like the careless man in Jesus’ parable. He heard what his mother had to say, but the effects of the world got to him and he carelessly disobeyed. Do not be like the careless little fawn or the man in the parable that lost it all. Listen to the Lord and do what His Word says. “Be ye doers of the word and not hearers only.” It might just save your life.
In the four devotions we will look to the scriptures and find some insight on the importance of being obedient to the Lord, as well as:
